The Illinois systems for appealing property assessments provides several opportunities for taxpayers to have incorrect or inaccurate assessments corrected. These options include:
An Informal Appeal at the Township Assessor Level
: If you believe that there is an error or discrepency in the information about your property that effects the assessment amount, please contact your Assessor. Calling attention to an error early allows for adjustments to be made quickly and without using the formal appeal process. This process could involve a visit from your Deputy Assessors to measure or verify the information provided.
A Formal Appeal to the County Board of Review:
If you have already spoken with the Township Assessor and still believe that your property is not valued correctly, you may file a formal complaint to the County Board of Review. A Formal Complaint can only be filed within 30 days of assessments being published. Assessments for 2022 were published on August 3, 2022.
